KARKAL CAKE

The Karkal cake or Karkal Halwa is one of the most delicious, “melt-in-the-mouth” dishes one can ever have. The best part about this dish is that one need not even put in any effort to eat it. It just activates your taste buds and finds its way down right into your heart!! Made with the healthy wheat flour and dollops of ghee, this is just the perfect sweet to accompany all the Shravan festivities this month. Read on to know how you can make this.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 tbsp ghee
  • 2 cups Kasturi Wheat Flour
  • 6 cups Water
  • 1 and 1/2 cup Kasturi Sugar
  • Cashews
  • Dry Grapes

METHOD:

  • Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan. Add in the wheat flour and fry it for about 30 minutes making sure it doesn’t burn and until you can smell a lingering aroma of the flour.
  • Simultaneously, Boil 6 glasses of water in a vessel.
  • Once the flour has fried well add it into the boiling water slowly and mix well so that no lumps are formed.
  • Continuously mix until a sticky paste is formed.
  • Add 2 tbsp ghee.
  • Add in 1.5 glass of sugar once the water evaporates and cook for another 15 minutes (keep stirring so it doesn’t stick to the pan) until you can see the halwa leaving the sides of the pan.
  • Heat ghee in a pan add in cashews and fry till golden brown and pour over the halwa and mix well.
